In the dark........

We had both had a very long busy Friday.
We had weaved in and out of our fellow after work crowds at the supermarket buying the exotic things
we needed for the weekend.....loo paper, kitchen towel, malk ( milk to normal folks but malk to us a la the simpsons), cheese.
It was cold.
We were tired.
Nearby there was a cinema showing Gravity, which we really did want to see.
So on the spur of the moment we packed the groceries in the car and decided to go and see the film.....we had about 15 minutes to spare and there was a tiny back street pub between us and the cinema.
You know that bit in films where a noisy pub is silenced by the entrance of strangers? those strangers were us....but we ordered a drink for the mister and a glass of red for me. The barmaid gave me a teeny tiny glass and a teeny tiny bottle of red wine and asked for a very un-teeny tiny amount of money. We were not there long and at least 3 times a rather unkempt but gracious chap approached us holding a plate and offering 'pate?' on slices of white bread. Very kind but we declined. The plate of food looked as if it had been going around the pub since VE night.
I had only had a few sips of my wine when we needed to hot foot it to the pictures so I did what any girl who has had a hard week would do......screwed the top back on to my wine and put it in my bag.
Later on, sat in the dark, wearing our 3d specs, the mister needed to go to the loo and while he was gone I remembered my wine.....and as I took a swig I saw a couple look at me with that 'poor woman' frown on their faces.
Truly, and my friends can attest to this, I do not very often drink, so it amused me to think that the couple  thought I was carrying my own emergency bottle and was sneaking a drink while my chap was in the loo!
Full marks to the film.......I thought it might make me giddy or sea sick but in fact I thought constantly how wonderful the earth looked and how slow and peaceful the movements of the people and machines were..and despite the tension of the film it was very calming to watch.......but of course maybe that could have been because I was sitting in the dark drinking wine surreptitiously..........................................

I had to bring him home......

Well I'm thinking of it as a him.....a relative of Rudolph perhaps? Stood on the charity shop floor looking for a home...how could I not bring him back to join us for Christmas? I might tie a festive ribbon around his neck..what do you think? tartan or red or Christmassy? any ideas?

And now I'm asking for an opinion on scent or possible fake scent..........
On the left are my two empty bottles (and I know it is a little odd to keep empty bottles but rather than throw them away, I put them, minus the top, into underwear and jumper drawers) and on the right is the full bottle that my mister bought me the other day at a local pharmacy......but it doesn't seem to be right somehow.....is this a new bottle design? and why does it have hardly any noticeable smell at all? I have had both Eau d T and Eau d P and I'm not sure this is either of those.......do I sound totally mad? perhaps........

In other news, my big Sis is recovering well but is still quite lacking in any energy, and has to take medication everyday. Ma and Pa are doing the very best they can, but now Ma is in bed with a chest infection. How lightly we take our daily good fortune and health.....only thinking about 'what if' scenarios once the comfortable clip-clop of our apple cart life is upturned in some way.

We are off to Gdansk in a couple of weeks (and yes I know...we do always
go to the cheap and cheerful
get to-able by cheap airlines places....but that is the appeal...cheap, close to get to and we've never been before....we look at it as having adventures...honestly!) and another short weekend away is something to look forward to.....these little breaks are proving to be worth their weight in gold.

This was how frosty the ground was in the mornings on our Cumbria trip....but that made no difference...I think having a birthday in November has made me love this time of year best of all!

It must be very obvious by now that this post is really a bit of stuff'n'nonsense but I did want to get back into the blogging groove.....I have just passed my 4yr blogging anniversary and something in me wants to make it to 5yrs......let's see.

Catching your breath.....

The last few months seem to have flown by and the last few weeks have, for one reason and another, been busy and a little 'sleeves up, head down, get on with it'........and sometimes what you need, and what is worth driving hours and hours in the rainy dark for, is to take a weekend in another place. To be with friends, visit a part of the world you haven't seen before, relax in front of a log fire, drink wine, marvel at how warm a stone cottage up a long high farm track can be in November, and walk your little legs off whatever the weather - rain/sun/hail/wind/rainbows.....we had it all and it was wonderful.

So we spent two nights in Cumbria with a group of friends and had a really smashing time......in fact (for the benefit of YP) we did also visit Hawes which I believe is in Yorkshire.........2 nights and 2 days was not really a long enough visit but a small taster and we do intend to revisit next year. A little weekend in such a beautiful place was great though........how lucky am I?

Sunday.....

Spending an hour at an allotment open day in the sunshine. A toasted croissant slathered in butter for breakfast. Drying washing on a line...
