Free time....

Went to the pictures and the mister.
As it was an 11am showing we had the place to ourselves.
Back and centre seats.
'Silver Linings Notebook.'
A really really good film.....not quite a rom-com or a deeply sad drama......well paced and quite funny in places...and sweet and well written.
Of course looking at Bradley Cooper was no always helps if the leading man is cute don't you think....and his leading lady was a pretty thing too, so the mister got that pleasure.
Robert de Niro is in the mix lots of boxes were ticked.
A feel good film that had us both smiling as we left the cinema.
The best kind of cinema experience in my book......only us there and a great film to boot.
What do you like about the film experience?

A little craft project.......

Today, in the charity shop, I saw these two items.
The heart, in case you can't see the label, was 50p and the tartan ribbon was 20p.
So for one pound of the realm, and a bit of paint and some imagination I can make
myself a Christmas decoration of some kind.....what do you think?

A comb and a bit of lippy at least?...

I love my family.
I love my 'living on the other side of the world' family.
Skype is a wonderful thing......BUT.......just as my mister finished saying 'you look tired' and I was running
my hands through my limp greasy hair and I was not wearing any makeup and I was wearing an old cardigan......THIS WAS NOT THE TIME I WANTED TO BE SHOWN VIA  SKYPE ON A VERY LARGE TV TO MY FOLKS IN CALIFORNIA!
A little notice would be nice next time folks..........
good to see you though......

Shall I tell you what I hate about Bosses?
Shall I?
Not that you need to know........
but that isn't going to stop me from typing is it?
Remember that Paul Whitehouse character on Harry Enfield?
The geezer who is *imagine wavy hand movement* a bit 'woah'.. a bit slippery.
Indicating that he is on the wrong side of the law.
I am reminded of this way of operating just lately at work.
No law breaking takes place...but morally things are distorted and people are not treated well.
Bosses want to have everything....they want to have things both ways don't they?
They want you to be a little bit 'woah' and break rules and use smoke and mirrors to get a result.
At almost any cost.
They call it being creative.
They also want to be able to do daily checks and have daily assurances that everything is done correctly.
Accounted for......ticked and right.
They want to have it all.
I know....they are the Boss....they can have what they ask for. I get it.
But help me out here management......
I am an old fashioned girl who doesn't cut corners, who doesn't make up stats and figures
and who, sadly, because I wish I could be like the others, I do dot the i's and cross the t's.
Tell me or show me how to be both.......above board and straight... and.... 'woah' in the way I operate.
Actually.......don't tell me......I shall just carry on being who and what I am .... boring and plodding maybe but always there, always reliable, and ensuring that I do my best.

Managers come and go.....our office has had 8 in the last 2 yrs.....the rest of us are still working away and looking forward to retiring.....or winning the lottery!

Still tapping away.....

It has been 3 years since I started this blog.
Never imagined I would stick with it for this long.
Yet again, time seems to have whizzed by at supersonic speed.
So many years have flown by.......

I am no longer 17, or 27 or 47 or 57.
I no longer wear size 10 clothes.
I am no longer thin, with a flat stomach and slim ankles, and youthful skin.
My kids are adults.
My mister has grey hair.
We both wear reading glasses and make that slight grunty groany noise when we have to get up from kneeling down.
Dinner used to be eaten at 8 or 9 in the evening.....heaven forfend that we should do that now...the idea of Early bird dinner at 6pm seems downright sensible to us now.
The words pensions, mortgages, and retirement plans are peppering conversations with friends now.

On the plus side, I have found a hairstyle I like that suits me.
I do not give a fuck about some things.
I know who I am.
I hate some aspects of my personality but don't beat myself up over what I am not...not anymore.
I know who I love.
I am loved.
I still hate my job but have given myself a goal......I will retire in two years time......unless destiny steps in and changes that plan.
I look forward to my kids having kids.
When I catch sight of myself in the mirror I sometimes groan and think I look about 100.....and yet at other times I think I don't look too bad for an old gal.

Stumbling across the blogosphere 3 years ago was wonderful.
I love blogging.......reading and commenting and interacting with people that I would never have met in non-blogging land.

I am really happy to have 'met' via t'interweb some really smashing people .......made friends.

Tapping away...wittering on.....I can't see me stopping just yet....just wish I could get time to slow down a little....
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for commenting.
For being out there.

Chandeliers and candles.......

Although we visited Copenhagen at the right time (good weather, empty tourist spots etc.,) I think a week or two later would be a good idea for another time, as there was lots of Christmas preparation going on and seeing everywhere lit up would be it was I was entranced by the use of chandeliers and candles everywhere. My kids say that our dining room looks like Blackpool illuminations now as I have tried to re-create the atmosphere with candles on every available surface!

The City was wonderful and it was only apparent at Gatwick on our return home, where we witnessed an argument between two 'lively' families returning from Spain, that we realised we had not once heard a raised voice in Copenhagen. The Danish people really do cycle everywhere in their special bike lanes and overall there is a quiet, competent, compliant atmosphere, where people do not shout or jaywalk or drop litter or push into each other or shout. Not zombie like, just easy and sensible. I love flatlands and we must have walked ourselves silly during our time there, always finding some street or statue or gallery around a corner or at each turn, and when walking was not an option we did have Copenhagen cards, which were truly worth worrying about finding fares for each journey and  gave us entrance to so many museums or canal trips or exhibitions. We took the train up to Helsingore one day, the beautiful Castle that in a famous play is known by the name of Elsinore. We had the place to ourselves and at the beautiful new art gallery close by we saw a new installation that is a companion piece to the little mermaid...
The Merman.

As this was a birthday trip for me, my mister booked tickets for us to go to see Madame Butterfly at the beautiful new opera house, and although we were so high up you could get a nose bleed the view was fine and the novelty of getting a water taxi across to the building and then back again after the show was really fun....

We did visit lots of Castles, museums, and tourist attractions and have some delicious open sandwiches,  and in fact we would love to return one day, as there were districts we didn't get to after Christmas we start saving for our 'weekend away trip before grandchildren' yearly jaunt!
Oh and if I knew how to make a small photo mosaic then I could post a few more pics...Copenhagen is a fabulous place to visit and I snapped away constantly.......but if you are still reading this you may be beyond bored by if you get the chance, go visit Denmark yourself......only just under 2hrs away and well worth the trip.
