Slipping away......

My daughter is starting to get ready to return to University. Talk of Dissertation subjects, rent for the new house,
how the last two years seem to have flown by. As happy as I am that she is returning to a City she loves, to share a house with great mates, studying a subject she enjoys, I can hear that little voice in my head reminding me that once this new term is done, she will have finished Uni., and the inevitable next step will probably be, if the Fates are kind and she gets a job, moving away from home..................................................................

And that will be that.
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Treasure from the earth.......

We forgot that we had some potatoes growing in the garden and came in from shopping, started to hang some washing out and then saw that we could be digging up our dinner! My daughter set to and ta-da!
Not enormous....not sackfuls.....but enough....and home grown.

Autumn.....

When you come out of work at the end of the day and the atmosphere feels like the seasons have changed.
The air is slightly crisper and the light on the buildings is subtly different.
You start thinking about wearing cardigans and tights and boots to work and putting away summer clothes.
And if you are me.....you start to look forward to evening woodsmoke in the air, lamps being on earlier in the evening, dry leaves falling softly and the beginnings of that Christmas is coming feeling......
I know we have not had a summer this year...unless I blinked and missed it?
I also know that Autumn is my favourite time of year.............

Which Season do you love most?

birthday by the sea.....

I am truly a lucky lucky girl.
Ma and Pa were able to spend a couple of days with my sister at the coast and so we all got together over the hot weekend, which was also my sisters birthday......

There was wine, and cake, and pretend tattoos and candles on the deck for sundown and staying outside due to the heat!
Back home to greyness and rain and work.........but memories of a Saturday and Sunday that was like a little jewel of colour.

The invisible rug......

OK, so we haven't yet put the new flooring down, and initially we hoped that we could just use these floorboards, but there are too many gaps and bad bits and spaces where the fire was and so it will be covered soon.....but until then we have this painted only around the edges thing going on. Why did people do that?

Nobody puts baby in the corner........

Earlier this week I went to the theatre to see Dirty Dancing. I love the film and my big sister asked me to take her, so along with my DiL and my daughter, we sat and whooped at those famous words and cheered along with every other woman in the theatre as Jonny lifted Baby in the scene everyone remembers. The dancing was fabulous and they made the moves look so easy.....I'm sure I could move like that if I tried.......well maybe not quite like those lithe young talented dancers.......but in my head? oh Jonny...........

Age apparent/appropriate?

We were at an evening wedding reception last night. After the Bride and Groom had started the dancing, and I was on my 3rd glass of wine, the DJ played some 'blasts from the past' music wise...good old disco......and I couldn't help it...I was compelled.............the music drew me closer and closer to the floor and soon, along with my two friends, I was out there giving it my all.....in my head I was strutting my funky stuff and so it was slightly disconcerting to see that gradually all the young people were drifting away from us and off the dance floor........yes ......us 3 ladies of a certain age were left alone.............we were hideous to behold as we were Granny dancing! At first embarrassed we then laughed and thought 'what the heck' and carried on....I have been the slim young thing and now I am the not so slim nearly 60 thing, and have decided to embrace each and every stage....we may have been granny dancing but we were singing and smiling and having a good time.

Must work out the heating........

I left for work at 7.50 this morning - no heating on - left work at 5.15 and then went to choir - so have just come in and the house is COLD...
